Saudi Arabia’s civil defense directorate has confirmed the death of more than 300 people with about 400 injured in a stampede at the annual Saudi Hajj pilgrimage.
The stampede occurred at Mina where the pilgrims go to perform a symbolic stoning of the devil. Mina, outskirts of the holy city of Mecca, also has about 160,000 tents where pilgrims spend the night during their stay. Reports say that people continued to troop in to Mina even during and after the stampede to perform the customary observance of stoning the devil.
Casualties have long been taken to various hospitals for proper medi-care. Several videos and images from the incident have emerged on different social media platforms.
